Tyrese aka “sexual chocolate” to the ladies & a few fellas found himself in a slight sticky situation during his visit to Delaware’s radio station WJKS Kiss 101.7 on Tuesday.
The singer who one of the few black men in the industry who actually stands for something besides money, sex & hoes was in town to promote his new album.
While on air he shared his personal thoughts on why liquor stores should not be allowed to operate near schools. This came up because Tyrese passed one next to a school on his way to the radio station. Unfortunately, his opinions got him “booted” from the radio station, how stupid!
It all happened when Tyrese, who was invited on the show to promote his album, made a PASSIONATE statement about how liquor stores SHOULD NOT be allowed near schools … after seeing one on his way to the station.
During his rant, Tyrese told the DJ, “Get them cats out of here … selling alcohol right across from your kids school, homie — put the pressure on them homie … you know how to put pressure on dudes selling in your hood.”
But when the show went to commercial, Tyrese was asked to leave the building — and the owner of the radio station confirms to TMZ that it was because he felt Tyrese was “disrespecting” the Delaware community.
This is just pure b.s.! It sounds like to me the radio station & DJ took Tyrese comments personal. Hell, his comments didn’t only apply to Delaware but schools & communities all across the nation.
Radio stations kill me inviting people on their show to speak, granted Tyrese was invited to talk about his “album“, is besides the point.
Tyrese wasn’t trying to down the Delaware community, he was simply trying to being awareness to the situation & let the DJ know he has the voice to do that. Hell isn’t that the purpose (besides music) of having a radio station in the community. Maybe, the station is sponsored by a few liquor stores, who knows.
After all that Tyrese kept moving and made stop at The University of Delaware to promote his new book. He also discussed with students on the issue of liquor stores near schools.
Kudos for Tyrese for making a stand! That radio station ought to be shame!
