Denzel Washington continues to set the standards for African-Americans & celebrities word-wide. As one of the most prominent figures in Hollywood he’s never afraid to put his money where his mouth is!
The actor just donated a staggering $2 million to his alma mater Fordham University in support of a new program focused on theater. To top that off, actress Phylicia Rashad will be the school’s first professor.
Washington gifted $2 million to the Bronx based school for an endowed theater professorship programand an additional $225,000 to support an undergraduate theater scholarship.
“I wanted to create the Denzel Washington Endowed Scholarship and Chair in Theatre at Fordham in order to offer the next generation of students positive influences,” he said in a statement.
Fordham will welcome Cosby Show star Phylicia Rashad as the first teacher in the new program supported by Washington’s gift. The school will subsequently bring in new guest lecturers each fall from the theater arts. [source]
